What inspired you to start youth4work?

During my campus selection, the first company was Mahendra and they randomly picked anyone for any department. They picked my friend who couldn’t speak English to work in a department dealing with foreign trade! There was no check. What mattered was — ‘Btech hai, kahin bhi daal do’. This disturbed me and I started my start-up. I decided to start a technology which will assess you and your skills.

What are the facilities?

There is a youth journey that happens. While you were in college you wanted internships, then came exam preparations, then you apply for jobs which are based on skills. Now you want to know your skills and talents and a suitable job for that. This, from entering into college to getting a job, is a journey. So we capture the youth in their journey at least till their second job. For this all facilities are provided in our app, self assessment tests, talent tests, jobs openings and everything.

How is it different from other apps and job providers?

We are ‘not’ a job provider. We are a youth platform which helps people upskilling, skilling and showcasing their talent. Job is a byproduct of your skills and talents. We don’t want to be labeled as job providers. We are not meant for that.

Why should people prefer this app?

The app helps ‘you’. It helps the users in understanding themselves. It will help you above a particular transaction. In India, understanding oneself is the biggest missing criteria. Youngsters ko ya mujhe bhi nahi pata ki hum mein kya skill hai bas engineering karli ya degree leli. Degree is the worst criteria to judge people. I would prefer a skilled person rather than having a less skilled person with many degrees.

Are you involved in projects like Skill India? If yes, how?

Yes, we won the Innovation Award in skill India. We are doing a lot in Skill India. Our tools are helping them for skilling people and getting them jobs. We are partners with the sector skill council in India. We’re also helping Medical Student Performance Evaluation. There are about 50 more partners who would be using our platform to upskill.

How do you propose the mindset of people who still look for job openings in newspaper?

There are two parts of this problem. The first one is to actually find these people. Second, upskill them and aware them about their skill talent and technology.

The first problem is not being addressed. Once the first problem is addressed, second will automatically be done. Take an example. There’s a person in Ajmer who is preparing for Core Java. If this data is available, we can use it powerfully and tell him about his skill, guide him and second problem is also solved. So this data with some information is very necessary. Mobile phones are nowadays very common. Just a name and number is needed and we can solve both these problems.

Isn’t providing too many facilities confuse the users?

Confusers are looking only for one thing. A job. So that is a business trick now. The technology will show you what you want. But it will change with your desires. System move karega. Technology aisi hai ki jo chahiye wohi dikhega.

Tips for people who want to start their own start-up.

The only tip is to stay focused and fight the pain. People think that getting funding is the real pain but the real pain starts after you get the funding. These days, start-ups and entrepreneurships are showcased in a very different manner. Everyone fantasies it. Shows like TVF pitchers and social media has made it look so glamorous. Sabko lagta hai har entrepreneur billionaire banta hai. But in reality, the journey is very tough. Second, it is the idea. Your basic idea should be to make real business and not to make a lot of money.

Future plans.

India needs youth who need help in their journey. There are plans to expand outside India. There are partners who are chasing us and want to open up in Spain.
