Amidst the boiling elections scenario in the Uttar Pradesh, one of the core issues to likely fire up is Employment generation in the state. Being a traditionally agriculture dependent economy, the state is facing challenges for a prosperous trajectory of growth economy which is significantly dependent on the gainful employment acquired by its active labor force.

UP is 3rd largest state by economy, generating nearly 8% of India’s GDP. But though being India’s largest populated state with 202 Million citizens (78% Rural, 23% Urban), Uttar Pradesh ranks 9 in Unemployment Rate as per 5th Annual Employment-Unemployment Survey by Ministry of Labour & Employment.

These facts are backed by the fastest growing youth skills platform, Youth4work that is consistently empowering youth for achieving professional and personal excellence. About One Lakh youth from Uttar Pradesh have already shown interest to self-assess and showcase their skills, contributing to 9% of 1.3 Million total youth on the platform. Most of them are from Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad & Kanpur and are ranked on various skills through open Talent Tests, increasing their visibility to potential employers. The rankings are making it easier for employers to find job aspirants as per their distinctive skill sets. With numerous companies posting jobs, it is a golden chance for job aspirants to contest their candidature for the desired roles.

However, there are other indicators of the tough competition in the job market in the state. Interestingly, the average annual salary for Fresher/Entry Level (0–3 years) in Noida is Rs 2 Lakh, for Mid-Level Level (4–7 years) is Rs 3.7 Lakh, whereas for Lucknow the salaries for respective segments are Rs 1.8 Lakh and Rs 2 Lakh respectively. Most demanded skills by employers in the state are Sales & Marketing, Communication Skills and Customer Support. Technology jobs are highly concentrated in Noida and Ghaziabad. There are tremendous opportunities for companies to find talents in other cities & smaller towns.
